Life Article: Jazzman's
May 2007

Do you like the thought of having a super sweet, yet bold and interesting tasting espresso drink without having to pay an arm and a leg for it?  What about flaky pastries and cookies the size of a plate?  Well look no further than Jazzman’s Café;, Liberty’s own version of Starbucks.  This coffee vendor accepts meal plan points as well as scholarship dollars.  That makes enjoying a White Chocolate Mocha a little easier.  There are lots of other refreshments offered at this fine establishment including SOBE drinks, assorted teas, as well as sandwiches, large cookies, scones, and soups.  You also can have your sandwich or wrap toasted.  They have things such as regular coffee, specialty espresso drinks, and smoothies (or “Blasts” as Jazzman’s calls it) available as well.

Jazzman’s is located in the front corner of the ILRC (Integrated Learning Resource Center) Computer Lab on the second floor of DeMoss.  Its location lends itself to a lot of traffic, and it is also convenient for many students to run and grab a coffee before class.  Many students enjoy grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting at the bar overlooking the computer lab.  There are outlets located in the shop so that students with laptops can log in to the wireless internet.  There are also tables and chairs for those who wish to utilize this “coffee shop” type atmosphere.  A lot of students use this space as a place to hang out, or as a study break while in the computer lab.  This is usually a popular meeting place to have an interview, class meeting, or just a good conversation over a good cup of coffee.

The beverage stand has become a popular place among the students, and it is always buzzing.  The line may appear to be long; however, the workers are usually very quick and get out an order not only fast, but right.  I have not had a bad experience with Jazzman’s service, or their products.  I am impressed with their good and speedy service.  Their drinks are served in cups that are easy to carry and can be sealed with a lid for safe carrying.

My favorite beverages and foods at Jazzman’s include things such as their White Chocolate Mocha, Mocha Blast, Pepperoni Panini, and their cookies.  I have not tried many things other than those few listed.  It is seemingly popular because it is not a surprise to see someone holding a Jazzman’s cup in their hand on the way to class.  I also like the fact that I can use my meal dollars there.  It makes for a delightful little refreshment on my way to class or during a study break.  They usually have some great jazz music playing, and even though it is in the center of the computer lab, it is still reasonably quiet.  Jazzman’s is an excellent little coffee shop on campus.
